Made of glazed ceramic filled with a fabric plus and seeds inside (no planting required). Just gently spoon a little water into the whales blowhole and place whale on a tray with a little water. Place in a sunny spot, plug absorbs water for seeds and then green grasss grows which can be trimmed as it grows long and watched grow again. Good, clean growing fun!
